perfect to wear if it looks like rain

I haven't worn this on the bike yet, but is perfect to wear when I walk about town, especially in the rain. I love how the rain beads up on the surface, then rolls off. no leaks, breathable and a great color make this my go-to for spring outer wear. My only criticism would be the size zipper could use a larger fob. Good job, vulpine!

Great to hear that the Smock is keeping you dry, Philip! Thanks for taking the time to review it, and we'll note your feedback about the zipper.

Dulwich smock

This smock is perfect, so far. Medium was the perfect fit, it gives a bit of room to get it on. Not tried in the wet yet, but cosy with a fleece under I the cold weather.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, Tris.

It's great to hear that you like the jacket and that it fits you well. We're glad that it's providing you with an extra layer of protection from the cold.

Kind regards,

Dulwich smock

Purchased in the sale. Quality feel to the product and a good fit with generous arm length. Despite reading mixed reviews questioning the quality of the side zip, I've got no reason to believe the zip will fail with reasonable use. Ideal outer shell for protection from the elements both on and off the bike - though maybe not my first choice in the heaviest of downpours. Nice and breathable too.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Adrian.

Your positive remarks are truly appreciated, and we are particularly grateful for your input regarding the zipper. While the Dulwich Smock may not be intended for the most extreme weather conditions, we designed it to be an excellent choice to shield you from unexpected sudden showers. We're glad you've found a good use for it.

Kind regards,
The Vulpine Team

Nice jacket, middling cycling top!

Good points first. Off the bike this is a great, lightweight jacket to throw over your head. Lovely colour and really nice casual fit, stylish, seems well stitched together, keeps the wind and (light) showers off and will see a lot of use from me in this regard.

But... on the bike is a different story. I have worn this for my commute, for gravel rides and for sedate family road rides and to be honest I am not really sure what it is designed for. A low speed, gentle urban pootle to the pub is about all I'd use it for now!

It's a generous cut, so is pretty flappy. The hood is infuriatingly light, massive and is either billowing behind you like an air brake or getting blown round your neck and shoulders depending on wind direction, with no option to stash it. The metal zips don't run smoothly enough to open or adjust easily one-handed while riding (particularly zipping up), as others have said the side entry and rear pocket zips are very small and fiddly. The arm length and cut is nice in a riding position, but cuff adjustment is limited to two button positions and neither were right for me. Having worn it in mixed weather it is also not particularly showerproof, and having worn it for some moderate climbs the breathability is really poor. It gets pretty clammy in there pretty quickly, and the underarm eyelet vents don't seem to have any benefit.

Some feedback to improve this top in my opinion would be to make the hood stashable or have a magnetic clasp to retain it when not in use. Have a reversible zip on the kangaroo pocket so the top can be packed away into its own pouch and shoved in a bag. Replace the zips for smoother running ones, and provide some proper ventilation under the arms.

Fortunately I picked this up via a discount retailer for £47.99 and for that price it is a nice top that I will keep for casual wear. If I had paid full price for it as a piece of cycling apparel I would be really disappointed. Style over substance.

Thank you, Caleb, for your detailed feedback.
