Vulpine Christmas Gift Guide for the Design-Minded Cyclist

Posted on Categories NewsTags ,

Nick has put together his Christmas Gift Guide for creatively conscious cyclists, if you’re lucky you might get one or two of them.

The problem with cycling is the list of things you ‘need’ is endless. You get a bike, then that needs upgrading. You get some shorts and a helmet, then you realise you could be warmer/cooler/comfier.

And as you get further in, and you obsess, you want to fill your life with cycling. Art, accessories, STUFF….As you get to appreciate the differences in quality, the usual STUFF just doesn’t cut it.

Here’s our Vulpine staff guide to STUFF that does cut it. Please feel free to send it unsubtly to loved ones.

The Ultimate Bike – Colnago C60 Disc, £Billions.

Be hilarious and ask for this. You won’t get it. But YOU MIGHT (you won’t).

Rebecca J Kaye Animal Adventures Badge Pack, £3.

Becky is a friend of ours and the walls of Vulpine Central Command are plastered with her work. She does cute and graphic equally well, and these badges are cycling cute max.

UCI World Tour Poster, £25.

With the badges showing her cute side, this poster shows her race loving, graphic other self, at £25.

Velorution Vintage MTB Boots, £105.

Velorution are our Soho retail partner. Their shop is a true Aladdin’s cave of incredible commuter bikes. These own-brand kicks are a ludicrous value understated leather cycling boot. It says ‘MTB’, but these are ‘commute’ to me.

Vulpine Harrington Rain Jacket, £195.

It's the jacket we’ve become best known for. A perfect example of what we strand for. Style and performance. Cut for cycling, with lush water-resistant, super breathable Epic Cotton. And a lot of detailing. Available for both men and women

Sir Chris Hoy has to be shot at with bazookas to take his off.

Ginger & French Bike Wall Stickers, £25.

From our mates VeloVixen, these could maybe indoctrinate unwary children into cycling, or non-cycling visitors. Perhaps a little optimistic. But they look cool.

Jake Rusby Custom Steel Frame, £1200+

Maybe you’ve been REALLY good this year. I own 3 custom steel frames and there’s no finer feeling than jumping on a bike that is made EXACTLY for you. Every tube, every bottle cage, logo and polished fork crown (or not). There are so many incredible British talents out there, but right now I’d recommend Jake Rusby or Rusby Cycles. He’s on the edge of The Big Time, is a smashing bloke, and his prices are very reasonable indeed.

Vulpine Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks, £25, or 3 for £55

Everyone loves socks. And these are luxury incarnate. The addition of silk doesn’t just make them oppulent, but also stops your feet freezing if they get wet. Add in a classic British Herringbone, made in Italy, and these are a perfect Crimbo treat.

Schindelhauer Ludwig VIII Belt-Drive Bike, £1,695

Remember I mentioned Velorution’s incredible commuter bike collection? Bingo. And this is low down the range. Belt-driven Alfine hub gears keep life simple and very low maintaience. LUST.

Anthony Oram – Velo poster, open edition, £36.

Ant is a mate of ours, and produces a plethora of perfect Xmas cycling gifts. This hand pulled screenprint is a minimalist beauty.

Vulpine Button Down Oxford Shirt, £95.

Classic and simple on first appraisal, with our famous attention to detail. Beautiful exclusive Vulpine buttons, pleating to fit the shirt for riding, without giving away it’s other purpose. Treat. Available for both men and women.

The Ride Journal, edition IX, £10.50.

Consistently brilliant cycling magazine for all. And that’s doing it a disservice. The first wave of the ninth edition comes out on the 15th December, so order now. A fantastic stalwart of inclusive (but never dull) cycling culture.

Vittoria Lorica 1976 shoes, £139.

Beautiful and superbly comfortable Italian takes on a classic design. More sporty than the Velorution, they come in White, Yellow and Black. A staff favourite, these are the shoes I go to before any others.

Bicycle – Ugo Gattoni, £18.

Insanely detailed behemoth cycling illustration available from the ever superb NoBrow webshop. Look carefully at the whole double-sided gatefold and it all starts to get a bit filthy.

Vulpine Complete Cap Bundle, £60 with free Polka Cotton Cap

Stylish, detailed, extremely functional headwear for every type of weather. A reflective Thermal Storm Cap for freezing starts and Winter grimness, water resistant Storm Cap for chilly rides and rain, and a Polka Cotton Cap for mild weather, into the heat.

Velo Orange Drillium Double Chainset, £140.

I’m a sucker for alloy cranks, and these are drilled to delight. With sensible 48/34 teeth rings, they’re perfect for your custom or vintage steel build. Buy from Freshtripe, a smashing British online parts shop with many shiny precious things.

King Cage Iris Bottle Cage, £15.95

No carbon or shiny plastic here, these hand made bottle cages are crafted from stainless steel in the USA. They'll keep your bottles secure and your bike looking classy. Get them from Pedal + Tread along with some other beautiful essentials for outdoor adventures.
