The second Vulpine Cycling Fete is here!
The second Vulpine Cycling Fete is here, and after the wonderful success of the first one, organised in a rush as we launched Vulpine, here is the biggerer betterer funnerer second fete.
The concept is, and will always be the same. A fun, dynamic, inclusive way to enjoy all aspects of cycling and keep non-cyclists entertained too. There’s no snobbery, just great creativity, atmosphere, booze and British entrepreneurial cycling companies that do what they do to a very high standard indeed.
Nobody pays to attend. Vulpine doesn’t make any money from them. This is not a trade show. We just ask that they donate to our two nominated charities, and thus everyone feels warms and fuzzy. This fete we’re all supporting Friends of Herne Hill Velodrome, fighting to save one of British cycling’s greatest icons, and birthplace of Bradley Wiggins’ career; and Rollapaluza Outreach, encouraging cycling and sport in schools.
The fete is again at Balham Bowls Club in South London. It is indeed an old bowling club, in Balham! (Address on poster) A big amazing place, with beautiful shabby old wood-clad walls, vintage furniture and fine beers. Its a couple of minutes from Balham tube and overground train, plus its right next to the CS7 Cycle Superhighway.
Why London again? Well, I’ve been so busy launching Vulpine, and the last fete nearly did me in, so I took the selfish decision to keep the organisation the same, until I have staff to help me next year. We definitely want to take the fete around the UK next year. Do email us with any recommendations and requests for us to come to your area.
We’re doing 3pm-9pm this time because lights twinkle better at night, and I love European christmas night markets. It also means the Rollapaluza roller racing can go on until late, with many a glass of mulled wine raised in celebration of cycling endevour.
There’s so many things going on. So in no particular order, lets say exactly what there’ll be…
Cycling poster art from the dons. We’re honoured to have them with us, as part of their world tour. 26 artists on display! And you can buy the prints at very affordable prices.
Named after the twitter hashtag created by Dave Smith, ex Team GB coach, for Stef Wyman (husband of Cyclocross National Champ Helen Wyman) and his women’s racing team.
This article in Cyclismas created a huge groundswell of support and press coverage, with fans financing a racing team. This is a project Vulpine will be part of and you can sign up to sponsor them too. Plus we’ll have some of the UK’s finest racing talent at the fete too!
Stef’s 2011 team, Matrix-Prendas have Olympic gold medallists Jo Rowsell & Dani King in their colours, so fingers crossed!
THE BIKE SHOW
Cycling’s most popular podcast and cult radio show is coming to the fete! Jack Thurston will be wandering around with his errant microphone, meeting the stallholders and talking to you, the punters.
Stationary spinning of legs at ridiculous speeds. Roller racing is getting huge, and we love it (I’m not racing in a suit this time though. I am an idiot). For this event we’re going on into the night, with Vulpine prizes for the winners of Best Male, Female and Kid. Yes, we’ll have kids’ racing too!
See if you can beat the times of previous racers Chris Hoy & Vicky Pendleton.
KILL YOUR IDOLS!
I used to run and promote club nights and Kill Your Idols!, AKA Euan McGrath is my favourite DJ. He’ll be creating a fun eclectic mix of music that we can all get into. Think 6 Music after one too many espressos.
Alongside Artcrank we have a fantastic spread of UK cycling’s artists and photographers. I’ve picked out a fewfor special attention, though they’re all AMAZING.
We’re very proud to welcome NoBrow. Printers, publishers and supporters of the finest illustrators and artists, they have a huge international following, and rightly so. They also love a spot of cycling.
Illustrator and artist to Team Sky & Rouleur, Rich is a fixture in British cycling culture. His prints of cycling’s greats, past and present, are a delight. You can even have your own portrait commissioned.
Ben created this fete’s poster art. A lovely chap & speedy racer, you can meet him and see his work. Yea! Go Ben!
Will Barras & The Church of Ram
Celebrated street artist and cycling chap, Will is bringing along his off-the-wall art collective The Church of Ram for unexpected creativity.
