Melissa "Missy" Giove, AKA ‘The Missile’. Downhill MTB legend.

Originally a downhill Skier, she dominated the growing sport of downhill MTB racing in the 90s, not just with her uncompromising riding style, but through force of intellect and charisma.

Giove won her first race. On improving: "I went fast for maybe 50 yards and then crashed. Then I went 100 yards and crashed. Finally one day I made it across the finish line without crashing. I never got faster, I just made it down farther."

Missy Giove
World Champion, pet lover and fearless rider. Gnarly.

When he died she dried her pet piranha Gonzo and wore it round her neck. Her dog’s ashes are stowed in her sport’s bra (difficult to dry a black labrador, I’d imagine).

She was caught with 400 pounds of weed in 2009. That is a lot.

She is fast as flip, cool as fack and a proper cycling character.

  1. I had a poster of her on my bedroom wall as a teenager! Legend, and 400 pounds IS a hell of a lot of weed!

    Cool site Nick, good work!
